I'm a Kashmirian at Heart

On and off I've spent approximately three years of my life to and froing from Azad Kashmir and each time I go it's changed. The first time I went was in 1986 when I was 18 years old. I fitted in really quickly and felt very much at home. I met loads of family and sat with the elders in my Mum and Dad's village's listening to the stories of yester year from aged relatives. I enjoyed about the the comradeship of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Isia bhai bahi (brother, brother). People living side by side before the arrival of the British Raj whose Architecture and sturdy roads said it all.

It was after my visit to Kashmir that I took it upon myself to research the History of Kashmir and bought several books which I repeatedly read.  I was very angry with the British, namely Lord Mountbatten who had divided India up without much thought and consideration for the people and their plight, especially the Kashmiri's.

It is with this in mind and an vast amount of researched family history I have started to write today a film script unlike any seen in cinemas and that diaspora's will identify with. I am really enjoying writing it... and feel another trip to the homeland will be eventually be essential.
